Community Oncology Clinic Network

Community care close to home is the goal of the Community Oncology Clinic Network
Community hospitals in Northeastern Ontario have signed affiliation agreements with the Regional Cancer Program of the Sudbury Regional Hospital that govern the administration of chemotherapy. This includes policies and guidelines for preparation, administration, disposal, clinic supervision and quality assurance practices. About 40% of the Regional Cancer Program chemotherapy is administered through the network of clinics.

Patients are assessed by oncologists at the Northeastern Ontario Regional Cancer Program in Sudbury. If they are medically eligible (meaning their treatment is such that it can be safely delivered in their community) then the oncologist may decide to refer patients to their local community hospital for administration of chemotherapy.  Patients  continue to be assessed  on a regular basis by the Medical Oncologist at the Regional Cancer program.

The oncologists retain overall responsibility for treatment plans but the care is shared with physicians , nurses, pharmacists and other health care professionals at the Regional Cancer Program and in your community.

Today seems worst than ever. Tomorrow does get better. In the future the care and knowledge gets even greater. Keep friends and family around you. Please stay encouraged, you'll see it's not the end for you but a new beginning.
