Palliative Care offers therapy and services to meet the physical, psychological, social and spiritual needs of the dying patients and their families. The aim of palliative care is to enhance quality of life during a life-threatening illness when a cure is no longer an option.

The Palliative Care Unit at the Laurentian Site provides a private room for the patient, with “rooming in” available for families and caregivers. The Palliative team can include nurses, volunteers, doctors, physiotherapist, occupational therapist, social worker, pastoral worker, family members, caregivers and community services personnel.

Services provided by volunteers from the Palliative Caregivers Sudbury/Manitoulin Association include a visiting program, respite for caregivers, bedside vigil and bereavement support. Volunteers will visit in your home, in hospital, or in a long-term care facility. The Association is a non-profit,  charitable organization and  takes pride in providing  services at no charge.  Referrals can be made by a  patient, family member or health care professional.
