As of May 2008, we are pleased to present our revised website which has a fresh new look and much new content. All of this was made possible by a grant from the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation-Ontario Region which funded the project “Bridges to Better Breast Health”. The project was created through a partnership between Breast Action Coalition- Sudbury and the Regional Cancer Program of the Hôpital régional de Sudbury Regional Hospital. We are also very proud to be working in collaboration with Breast Health Coalition-Nipissing and Algoma Breast Health Coalition.
This website has been in existence since February 2003. It was in the spring 2001 when a Community Conversation Gathering was held in Sudbury with stakeholders representing a broad spectrum of services that included health promotion, screening, diagnosis, treatment, supportive care services and others. As a result of the presentations relating to existing resources and services in our community and open discussion concerning local needs, the consensus was to develop a virtual community in order to provide links to sources of community information, support and service.
The Sudbury Regional Breast Health Coalition, now renamed Breast Action Coalition - Sudbury (BACS), was formed with the purpose of developing the website, with representation from the following agencies: Canadian Cancer Society; Cancer Care Ontario; Circle of Strength/Sudbury Breast Cancer Support Group; the Northeastern Ontario Regional Cancer Centre (now known as Regional Cancer Program); Ontario Breast Cancer Information Exchange Partnership(now known as Ontario Breast Cancer Exchange Partnership); Ontario Breast Screening Program; Sudbury & District Health Unit; Sudbury Regional Breast Health Program and Willow Breast Cancer Support & Resource Services (now known as Willow Breast Cancer Support Canada).
The website www.breastnorth.info was developed by the BACS to create a virtual community for breast health/cancer information and support in the Northeast region, a population spread across a wide geographical area. The project was funded by the Canadian Breast Cancer Initiative of Health Canada and the Northeastern Ontario Regional Provider Network for Cancer Prevention, Screening and Early Detection (now known as Preventive Oncology and Screening Division).
