Public Health Nurses work with community groups, women and health professionals to educate women about breast health. At this time, there is no way to prevent breast cancer, but our best defense is early diagnosis so that treatment can begin as soon as possible. For this reason we work closely with the Ontario Breast Screening Program (OBSP) to break down barriers for women 50 years of age and older who are seeking access to effective, quality screening at no charge.

I am in my forth year of being a breast cancer survivor. When I first heard the words it didn't sink in right away I thought, NO WAY, it was like watching a movie. With amazing support from family, friends, and the medical staff, I have made it through. As a patient, lean on family and friends, they really want to help and don't know how. Leaning on them helps both you and them to cope a little better. Stay positive, use your strength to enjoy the world around you. This advice is good for everyone, not just cancer patients. Most important, don't lose your faith, this will get you through the tough times, believe in yourself.
